Public Health – Seattle & King County has a dirty problem on its hands–a smelter plume that contaminated the soil in one of its neighborhoods. The “Dirt Alert!” campaign, which warns families on the risks and dangers posed by this contamination had some existing printed material and a website, but it was all in English. To get the word out to multicultural households, TDW+Co conducted focus groups with representatives of ethnic communities and then transcreated the existing materials into Spanish, Korean, and Somali.
We continued our work on Dirt Alert! the following year by developing a social media campaign–with Spanish Facebook ads–targeting Hispanic/Latino households. This project falls within the county’s commitment to equity and social justice, ensuring that its “increasingly diverse population is receiving culturally appropriate and accessible information.”
